金。銀。それは、人間が現世の中で夢と抱く至上の輝き。 はるか古代エジプトでは、黄金は不死の象徴であり、悪魔よけの印であり、神の世界へとつながる栄光に満ちた王権の表現でありました。その感性はやがて西洋、中国を経て日本へと渡り、社寺仏閣に見られるように聖なる空間とその存在を示す色となり、そして冠婚葬祭、民衆の日常におけるハレの時と場や人そのものを演出する光として、 日本人の現代生活の中にとどまっています。金や銀の色それ自体は、科学的に考えれば、赤や青といった色環境には見られない、高い光の反射度を示すものにすぎないようです。しかしどの色彩にも勝る、色の華とも言うべき強い印象を持っています。たとえば鮮やかな色をちりばめた振袖。あるいは絢爛たる絵屏風。烈しく主張する色彩が同居するにもかかわらず、ひとたびそこに金銀が配されると、不思議にも調和が生まれ、華やかでいて落ち着きのある気品が漂うようになるのです。 色彩は、そして空間そのものをソフィスティケートさせる、特殊な力を持った金と銀。私たちは、その輝きに新しい可能性を見出し、今という時間に生きた美的空間を創造したいと考えます。かつてギリシャの詩人ヘシオドスが「黄金時代」と呼んだ最も古い持代は、真理と正義が行われ、神と人間とが共生するユートピアであったといいます。そして、再び。格調と華麗。伝統のもとの独創。もうひとつの黄金時代が、ここから始まるのです。 |
Kin(gold).Gin(silver).The ultimate splendor known to we mortals.To the ancient Egyptians, gold was the symbol of immortality,a sign to ward off evil spirits, and a manifestation of royal power that was filled with a glory linked to the world of the gods.Over the centuries, these associations found their way, via Europe and China, to Japan.The colors gold and silver came to be used in the shrines andtemples of Japan to set these places apart as sacred space.Today, they have become part of all of our lives, casting their luster on those solemn occasions, those times and places that are special to us. Scientifically speaking, what distinguishes the colors gold and silver from hues of the color spectrum like red and blue is simply their high degree of diffusion of light.But they reign supreme among the colors because they make such a strong impression on us.Take a brightly colored young woman's kimono. Or a gorgeous folding screen. A juxtaposition of the most bold and assertive colors takes on a marvelous harmony the minute gold and silver are interspersed. And over all, a quiet dignity reigns. Silver and gold endow other colors-and the space itself-with sophistication. Therein lies their unique power. We discover in their luster whole new possibilities, and feel that we want to create out of that time which is the present a living, aesthetic space. The Greek poet Hesiod called the most ancient period of time the Golden Age. This was utopia, an age in which truth and justice prevailed and humanity and God were at one. And here, once again, is nobility and resplendence, originality born of centuries-old tradition. Another Golden Age is beginning. |
